So, what are the odds that Revelstoke actually gets around to building new lifts?

Probably pretty low. The originally business plan involved selling properties around their village to fund construction of additional lifts and the opening up of new terrain. After the 2008 Financial Crisis, real estate sales hit rock bottom, and they haven’t picked up considerably since. Meanwhile, other property developers have been building in the town itself and selling for much cheaper compared to the on-mountain offerings of RMR. There was an article about this a while back, but I can’t find it.

Seems like a consolidation candidate to me. Clean out the balance sheet, leverage the pass product to drive more skier visits, and take advantage of lower capital costs of the mothership to begin addressing some of the more pressing on-mountain infrastructure needs.

Peter- What year/make lifts are at Cockaigne?

I do have some fun memory’s of Cockaigne. When I was little my Father was a vol. fireman and they would all go to Cockaigne and enjoy a firemen day, discounted tickets and races with hoses down a course thought gates and everything…5 people on a 50’ hose and 4 had to be on it at the end. You always needed to best and heaviest skier on the lead because they could keep your speed up and turn you as fast or slow as you needed. It was a blast to watch and even better to participate in. I got to do it a few times due to needing a 5th skier. I was not a firefighter but that was not a problem….at the time my father was a commissioner and was not really available either so we had ghost 1 and ghost 2 on our team, and still showed the other companies what northern firefighter could ski. Companies form all over WNY would come not many but at lease 15 to 20 would and it was a blast.
The lodge was not in the greats of shape before the fire…it had seen a lot of memories but also a lot of hard miles as well. The same could be said for everything. Cockaigne was like a favorite toy for kid, well loved but not in great shape. The rest of the season they where in a tent and all the ski areas loans Cockaigne equipment to get them thought the season…skis poles boats tables and chairs…the lot was loan to them.
Cherry Creek is not exactly a booming area, hasn’t been for a long time, but with the ski area running their pride was in the right place. It will be nice to see it back again this season. I will definitely make a stop there this season.
Ryan in awnser to your question Cockaigne has 3 hall doubles from the late 60’s to early 70’s and one J bar late 60’s that’s a hall as well. At lease that’s what I remember from 7 years ago, and nothing has been added their this season. They are right now working on the lodge and getting the lifts back up and running and giving them TLC…
