- Disney unveils a Skyliner cabin and confirms there will be no air conditioning.
- Could Vail Resorts or Alterra buy Jay Peak?
- Friday, December 7th is the big day Vail announces first quarter earnings and capital expenditure plans for next year.
- The Hermitage Club might be loaned $25 to $30 million next week.
- Doppelmayr/Garaventa worldwide revenues grow 5.7 percent to $965 million for the 2017/18 fiscal year.
- American Eagle at Copper is beginning to look like a Telemix.
- My brother Ben Landsman and Tiffany Wilson are Lift Blog Southeast Asian correspondents this week. Check out their adventure on the world’s longest and fastest gondola earlier today.
Don’t know if anyone ever confirmed but after driving by earlier this week, can confirm that the terminals at Cooper are all wood. While certainly more expansive, according to the guys at Poma I talked to earlier this Fall it supposedly dampens noise.

Im not concerned about the lack of AC in the skyliner cabins, with all the ventalation and reflectuve glass they should remain cool. They work fine in south america without heat issues.

Although if the lift stops and needs a rope evac that could be ugly. The D-Line is supposed to be super reliable so that will hopefully never happen.

I’ve tried to tell the YouTube community that, to no avail. With the Doppelmayr D-line and the fact that Disney makes sure things are ultimately safe, I’m not convinced a rope evac will happen either.

I could see either Alterra or Vail buying Jay – both probably want another resort. Alterra only has two – and one of those is in Canada. I also think Peak Resorts may be interested to consolidate their presence in the Northeast. I’m not sure that Burke has a much of a value, maybe it’s a consolation prize when it does go up for sale.

Alterra only has two? Not sure I get that.
Whatever the case, I could see Vail making a run so that Alterra doesn’t completely dominate the Montreal market with Tremblant. I think Burke is likely to be excluded from the sale if it’s to either giants – doesn’t fit their model.

I meant that Alterra only owns Stratton and Mount Tremblant in the northeast. Although I may be mistaken.

Jay Peak Vermont is an interesting ski market to try to understand because Jay draws from southern Ontario and western New York state, as well as from Montreal and New England. Toronto skiers who drive the 7-8 hours to Jay for holidays may be members of private ski clubs in either Collingwood Ontario or Ellicottville New York. They may not necessarily want an IKON or EPIC pass. Jay Peak definitely has a culture unique to Jay – “Raised Jay” so it’s equally important that the buyer of Jay Peak, not only has deep pockets to afford to buy it and improve it, but also the good sense to keep their fingers in the pockets (and their mouth’s shut ) and not mess with success – ski culture wise. Otherwise a great place could be ruined. Will wait and see with baited breath for the sale announcement.

They’ve reported it will still be opening on Friday. Must be greasing some tramway palms for that.

How’s that? The cabin, as I understand it, hit construction debris. That’s not the fault of the design, so if everything else works as designed there should be no problem getting the licence.
