Major lift moves will continue in the Catskill Mountains of New York this summer as Windham Mountain Resort moves its original detachable quad to replace a CTEC triple chair nearby. “As one successful winter season full of upgrades begins to wind down, plans for the next are already in the works,” said the resort in a media release. Last December, the larger Westside Six chairlift rendered the quad redundant and it hasn’t opened since. The move will mean two different high speed lifts will serve as out-of-base workhorses in addition to Windham’s third detachable on East Peak.
C Lift, also known as Wonderama, started out on East Peak in 1987 and moved to its current location in 2006 to replace a Carlevaro-Savio triple. The latest lift in this alignment will be the fourth new detachable built between neighbors Hunter, Windham and Belleayre in just the last three years.
Windham also announced new grooming, trail widening and automated snowmaking investments today.

This is a great move. The Wonderama trail is a great novice trail. Similar pitch and width to Snowshed at Killington. The ski school, a huge revenue source for the resort likes to use it, but they had to run the triple at only 300 feet per minute to make it easy beginners to load. With over a 10 minute ride, it wasn’t exactly a popular option for anyone who could ski off the top. The quad will be much easier to load and won’t have to slow down every time a kid gets on. This also improves their night skiing operation which C-Lift is part of.

I’m sure the 1987 CTEC will be relocated. It’s very well maintained and is long enough that it can be reinstalled in a lot of locations. I also wonder if Windham will keep it to use as a future expansion lift.

But where would windham expand to? Do they have any plans to expand?

I have no inside knowledge, but I could see them putting a lift in that Wilderness Bowl section or below the Wanderer trail on East Peak to get a second base. Since they are on private land they can keep things under wraps really well as they don’t need to go through permitting. If they don’t want to keep the lift, then they’ll sell it, and I’m sure another ski area somewhere would be interested.

To Bad Hunter & Windham Can’t Afford A 8 Pack Like Big Sky Montana Has. Big Sky Is Now The King Of The Mtn For ALL USA Ski Resorts. So All East Coast Resorts Take Lessons Form Big Sky Resorts On Having the 1st Ever 8 Pack In ALL OF North America.

It’s not that they can’t afford it, but whether or not they need it. Windham is rather small, just 285 acres, and most East Coast areas are small as well. An eight-pack would be overkill. Same for Hunter.
Hell, eight packs would be overkill at most of the big ski areas, even out west. (I don’t get your obsession with Ramcharger 8; it’s a great lift, but it doesn’t mean all other lifts are bad. Also, why do you need to do the time-consuming process of capitalizing every word in your sentences?)

I like Windham a lot better than hunter. The environment, trails, conditions, and food always seem to be better. I also like the variety of parks Windham has. Even though it says hunter has more trails, a lot of them are just traverse, upper/lower, and beginner trails.

Will that make Northside at Deer Valley the only CTEC Stealth 1 in its original location after this year?

Yes I believe so. 1993 was the only year for the Stealth 1 and there are 3 of them. The other one that got relocated is Motherlode at Park City which was originally King Con. In 1994 they went to the Stealth 2 like the Superquad at Sugarloaf and made that until 2000 which is when the Stealth 3 was introduced along with new grips.
