The Forest Service Schedule of Proposed Actions lists expected implementation in June of 2020. We should know more when Vail details its 2020 priorities in early December.
Another document just got uploaded which says the lift will be detachable with a 2,400 per hour capacity. Doesn’t specify chair size but most likely quad.

That’s actually not too far off from what I predicted. (That the proposed alignment would take traffic off of the runout back to the Independence SuperChair)

The Basin is going Ikon, eh? That didn’t take long.

A-Basin may get a new lift or two soon. Pali and Molly Hogan replacements? Also does anyone think Lenawee would get upgraded to a detachable?

Pali maybe. It’s a 1978 Yan with all that goes with that. Although they’ve got a ton of parts from Norway so they could limp it along for a while. I don’t see Lenawee getting upgraded; yes it’s a fixed-grip but that lift department has it dialed. I rarely see it stop.

1978 Yans didn’t have “with all that goes with that”. Steel rockers, standard sheaves, Kissling gearboxes- all bulletproof. It’s probably had the drive replaced so it should run for awhile longer. The issue is it’s a double and probably could stand to be a triple.

You’re right, I misstated the issues. For some reason I was thinking that one had the aluminum assemblies, but those didn’t show up until later.

The Disney Skyliner alignment is confusing. Why have two angle stations? Is it for aesthetics? There isn’t loading or unloading at either iirc, and it’s definitely not faster.

The east angle station has loading/unloading for a hotel. The purpose of the second angle station is to avoid having riders see the backstage area of Epcot.

That would make a lot of sense, I forgot that Disney owns Skyliner lol

Lenawee upgrade was hinted a year or two ago. I still think a HSS for Lenawee and relocate the current triple to replace Pali would be a good project. In the case of the Hogan, it doesn’t seem like the run is long enough to warrant the costs of maintaining a chairlift there even though they have for years.

I’m all for the Breckenridge infill high speed quad. I’ve felt for years that Lower Monte Cristo is a bit of a chokepoint since it has to handle traffic from every run north of Pioneer, including the Peak 7 trails and all traffic from the Kensho SuperChair. That hill can get pretty crusty especially in the afternoon.
A high speed quad seems perfect for the lift line, seeing as that would mean a total uphill capacity of 5,400 people on Peak 7, which is about the same amount of uphill capacity as the Peak 9 high speed quads combined. And yeah, it will function perfectly as both a lapping lift and an access lift, since one will be able to lap Monte Cristo, Angel’s Rest, and Lincoln Meadows from it, in addition to being able to bypass Peak 7 Base heading back from Peak 6. Seeing as they already built the Peak 6 Parkway cutoff in 2013 to allow traffic from the Rocky Mountain SuperChair to bypass Peak 7 base heading to Peak 6, it’ll also mean that one theoretically could do a day where they never go down to the Independence SuperChair while lapping Peak 7. And that the Independence SuperChair will have a backup lift for if it ever goes down.
