Big news about the GMVS Poma! I have tried to ride it but have gotten yelled at. I really need to get my act together and ride it this season. I personally don’t find this replacement necessary. It’s a very simple lift that is easy to repair and maintain. If it breaks down racers can just ride the Inverness quad instead.

They are rich and want to show it off. I’m counting on you to get a recording of both GMVS surface lifts.

There does seem to be quite the arms race shaping up between ski racing programs. GMVS will have two T-Bars then there is Gould Academy/Sunday River, Burke Mountain Academy, Killington Mountain School, Vail Mountain School, and soon Aspen Valley Ski & Snowboard Club with one each.

Hope you can ride it! I was able to ride the lower t-bar without issue, but didn’t try the poma (it might have been closed when I was taking pictures).

I can definitely load the T-Bar myself and do it quickly before the lift op catches me. The poma, on the other hand, is much harder. The carriers come swinging around the bullwheel at about 500 FPM, therefore making it quite hard to load.

What is the purpose of a double grooved bullwheel? The vineyards gondola: “Double grooved bullwheel allowing for another bullwheel to act as the drive and tensioning.”
Are there other purposes for having one? Seems like it’s a little overkill or for tight (smaller footprint) installs.

I believe the mid terminal is the drive, so it was the cost effective way of powering both sections

On the vineyard’s gondola, it’s a solution to the problem with triangular lifts of where to put the tension carriage. On multi-segment gondolas (think urban settings), it lets one drive terminal power more than one segment, if the turn angle is sharp enough that running one haul rope through is tricky.

Cool to see a news note regarding WoodWind/Deepwood in Wisconsin. I’ve been on site several times and met the current owners (I’m actually the one who produced their summer progress video) and though it looks like they will primarily utilize surface lifts (they’ll likely be replacing two essentially home-made t-bars) they are moving ahead fairly decisively with what looks to me to be the steps necessary to reopen in a few seasons. Pretty interesting considering Deepwood has been shuttered for 30 years or so. Wisconsin actually has one or two other lost areas that may be coming back online in the not so distant future. Thanks for including the midwest in your news – love the site.
