So Lake Louise is finally getting rid of the gondola towers. Kinda sad, as it was once such an iconic lift at Lake Louise. But I understand that all old things need to go.

I’m surprised that Rose is considering a Lakeview replacement over a Ponderosa/Galena replacement, but I hope that the fact that both of their projects are detachable says that they’re in a good position.

The Elk Ridge permit application calls for “the placement of “neveplast” on the existing ski run; this artificial snow material surface would allow for skiing/boarding when there is not sufficient natural snow to operate”

Also adding a snow cat to get skiers/boarders up the mountain instead of replacing the broken down poma. Not sure I can see a snowcat “operation” be successful for such a small vertical area.

That was announced 17 minutes after this post. There’s still time for A-Basin and/or Loveland to open too!

Loveland has said they are hoping for next week so their out. A-Basin hasn’t made anything official yet though they have hinted.

The going rumor that if A-Basin announces opening tomorrow, then Keystone will put on the lights and open earlier in the morning. I could see that happening and it makes sense given that Keystone hasn’t set a time yet.

Long story short, Keystone will open first tomorrow.

On the Atoma expansion at Mt. Rose, honestly two separate lifts looks more practical than a two-stage detachable. Have a detachable be the main lift for the pod, with a fixed grip lift for ingress (or egress? I can’t tell). The “two stage detachable” proposal kinda reminds me a bit of Breck’s initial master plans for Peak 6 (since the lifts had to be built around existing private property lines), which at one point planned for a two-stage high speed six pack from the junction of Monte Cristo and Angel’s Rest to the Horizon Warming Hut, with a turn and mid-load station before going to the top of Peak 6. Instead of that, we got the current configuration of two separate lifts, with a fixed grip quad (Zendo) shuttling guests over to Horizon Warming Hut, and the high speed six pack (Kensho SuperChair) being used for lapping the trails.

I sorta see the same thing happening with the idea of a two-stage detachable for Mt. Rose’s expansion instead of two separate lifts.

Okay, the lift crossing the ski bridge in the map would be an egress lift.

It is 11 years old… And is a heavy duty tram with year round use so not so surprising..

Bah. ABasin didn’t win, They only opened for a few hours. Keystone wins the race if they have a decent ski day in my book.

Technically, they did. I don’t really care about early season skiing, but I do care about end of season skiing, and a basin does a really good job of staying open!

Just from the trail map, I’d say that a high speed quad is most likely what Mt. Rose is seeking for replacing Lakeview.
