Black Hawk – Chestnut Mountain, IL

This lift is mostly used in the summer for an alpine slide.
Look at that foundation!
Upper part of the lift line.
Loading area.
View up from the bottom terminal.
Fixed top drive.
Middle part of the lift line.
Side view of the tension return station.

Most early model Borvigs have a bottom drive version of this with 4 legs, but the top drive version doesn’t appear to be as common. It could be because ski areas who buy Borvigs can’t get the money to connect electricity to the top terminal.

The top drive lifts at chestnut were installed because of the availability of power at the time of installation.
Also being a updside down mountain, maintenance is located at the top of the hill.
