If I recall correctly, this used to be a double chair when I grew up skiing at Kirkwood. It was probably upgraded sometime in the early 2000s. Does anybody know what components need to be upgraded in a transformation like this? You would think horse power, counter weight and maybe cross arm length.

Yan overbuilt most of their lifts with future upgrades in mind. The first example that I can think of is Bear Mountain at Killington, VT, which was installed as a triple in 1979, and upgraded to a quad in 1984. Because the lift was overbuilt, only the chairs had to be replaced. It looks like the same has been done to this lift.
