Snow King may want to get patrol to trim the anchor bolts on the old Summit double foundations soon, could become quite a hazard as the old CTEC foundation bolts stick out like 14in.
The deck was removed as the terminal sits right up hill of it, the old deck foundations are visible in the pictures of the multry tower and top terminal along with old foundations of the double chair.
I think you are misunderstanding the caption. 18 cabins are between the terminals at 1 point, the other 6 cabins are in the terminals loading/unloading
Why is there a single pink gondola on the line? I’m hearing rumors that the towers will be extended higher off the ground for the rmshaw snowmobile hillclimbs this summer, only rumor not for sure.
That’s what I started doing after they shut down the gondola to pull them out. My skis are line blend. Just putting one ski in one of the holes they still fight me out. The ones at snowbasin (my home ski area) are much better.
The Pink wrapped gondola is I think is for a breast cancer awareness promotion.
Kind doubt that they would do such an expensive lift change as the lift profile was approved by the resort before manufacturing the gondola, I am guessing the new hillclimb course location is because SK doesn’t want tumbling snowmobiles colliding into their new multi-million dollar gondola towers.
They were more worried about rocks being thrown in the air and hitting a gondola. Although a 300-400 pound machine won’t do too good against a lift tower. They could always add more protection which will expensive. Snowking didn’t really think about the hillclimbs during construction. The hillclimbs bring lots of money to the town of Jackson.
The gondola towers really only need extensions to raise the lift off the ground higher. But jackson hole is Jackson hole someone will complain. I also think ground clearance is gonna become a issue during high snow levels especially at the top terminal.
Snowking should of left one of the old lift towers for the snowmobile catch net. The catchnet was attached to a lift tower and a tree.
It’s not “complaints” that are the issue the engineering required to raise the line to get the clearance required would likely require a complete rebuild of the line from the foundations up. Taller towers would require bigger foundations and possibly larger base sections or heavier wall tube in the lower tower sections to resist the bending forces exerted by the taller tower, this expense could be prohibitive. I would suggest that once the cabin garage is built they look at possibly reducing the number of cabins on line during the event or removing the cabins from the line during the event.
The Jackson hillclimb won’t be the same without some kind of access to the top of the mountain other than a snowmobile so the gondola is needed. People watch the race from the finish line too.
If possible any amount of tower extension is needed. The old snowmobile hillclimb was much better as you can watch the entire race from old double chair. Now they are running the race course up a different ski run which you can’t see from the gondola.
It’s always easy to criticize anything when your not writing the check for project.
I rode the Gondola last week. it’s a pretty clean machine, in the machine room and in the cabins.
Remember what was there. That old double chair was a worn out scary old lift!!
Beautiful lift!

That’s not good… but how would they do that?

Cordless grinder and earplugs.

…or a backpack torch set with eye protection! Patrol solution would probably be 2 crossed bamboos uphill of the foundation! ;-)

Could they theoretically put all 24 cabins on the line if they needed to increase capacity?

I have to say after riding this lift the ski racks on the gondolas are a pain. My skis are fairly wide and they fight me trying to pull them out.

Never had an issue with 114 underfoot skis. Can always bring them in the cabin though.

Agreed, the standard Sigma ski racks are horrible.

You have a good point there about the towers.

Agreed, the old double was a slow pig especially with foot passengers. No 100% downloading so there was a very long line to get back down.

1000 pph seems very low for a gondola. Does this lift ever get lines?
