When you’re in Ohio, don’t forget Clearfork ski hill. It’s currently abandoned, but I think it’s lifts are still standing. It is near Mansfield, Ohio and close to Snow Trails
Add Alpine Valley. I like that the ski areas in Ohio try to make their names sound like more well known areas in Vermont, like Mad River “Mountain” and Mt. Mansfield at Snow Trails. It’s also saying something that Ohio’s highest point has hill in the name.
My dad said the ski hill he used to go to in Ohio was called sugarloaf or Sugarmill or something like that, and it was built on an old garbage pile. Apparently, they had two Borvig center pole quads.
It’s not uncommon for Ohio to have their hills near garbage dumps. It always helps if the ski area needs to increase their vertical drop. I’m pretty sure Snow Trails did the same to their Mt. Mansfield.
Nope, unfortunately, they went under in the early 2000s. They had 700ft of verticle which is impressive for Ohio but their snowmaking was sub-optimal. They had 2 parallel Borvig doubles and a few handle tows. I saw a photo of the lifts recently, I believe it was on a Facebook page about the mountain.
Their marketing was not super great, either — my family lives in that area of Ohio and they ski, and they had never heard of this place until now. The location is quite a baffling choice — that area of Ohio rarely gets more than a foot or so of snow in an entire winter, if it gets any significant snow at all, so the snowmaking needs to be on point to have a chance of success and even then it might not consistently stay cold enough to do that.
I believe that several of the state fair sky rides are moved from state fair to state fair, if I read the comments Peter put in some of the descriptions, correctly.

Peter also needs to get Mad River Mountain (Not Mad River Glen), Boston Mills, Brandywine, and Snow trails.

I will work on getting the rest of the Ohio resorts this winter. Almost all the mountains I have left are in the Midwest and Mid-Atlantic.

Ha! I was a ski instructor at Alpine Valley in the 80’s. There’s also Cleveland Ski Club which owns and operates a private a ski area with two lifts.
