The early ’80’s Yans had issues with: 1) Grips- The Type 3 grips had design problems regarding adjustment. They also experienced NDT issues that lead to further testing requirements. 2) The carriers had issues with factory weldments that lead to failures of the pipe bail under the Taco area, which could only be detected by observing displacement (later requirements included Ultra Sonic testing under the Taco OR the addition of a gusset); 3) The Sheave Assemblies of that era, S-2, S-2A and S-2B had cast aluminum flanges that were susceptible to cracking, partially because of the design material and also due to improper assembly during rebuilding (lack of direction from the Manufacturer?)
I feel to an extent that Rendezvous should be upgraded to a high speed quad and extended to start halfway down Coppertone, about where I-Dropper merges with it, making it accessible from Solitude Station.
The only bad thing about replacing it with a high-speed quad would mean more people would go up there. Rendezvous is my favorite lift to take on powder days because almost no one goes up there. I’m not opposed to an upgrade though.
It was actually filmed on old E Lift- the Yan triple replaced with Excellerator. The scene where she pulls his tongue lose was filmed on the deck of Solitude Station.
When I worked at copper and the lift crew had to get back to the back bowls. The first one to the bottom of the rendezvous lift would turn it on hit go and ghost ride the whip to the top with no dedicated liftie. Needless to say you always hoped it would not stop!!!
can you catch the Rendezvous from the CopperTone green trail? The map is not clear and we are trying to stay green all the time without going blue or black. Another way to ask the question is, is there any possible way to reach the Rendezvous chair lift using the green trail only?
To get to Rendezvous on a ‘green’ trail, You need to descend a steeper section of Coppertone. Lift is on right at the bottom of steeper section. (I would stick to the LEFT side of Coppertone since it’s a bit easier.)
On the RIGHT Side of Coppertone there are ‘fast’ skiers heading to Sierra Lift. There are bathrooms at the bottom of Rendezvous,
Why were Rendezvous and Sierra retrofitted?

Same reason most of these chair replacements happen: the chairs were getting old.

If I’m not mistaken, this is the lift Jeff Daniels gets his tongue stuck on in Dumb and Dumber
