    Great Escape is a Yan/Doppelmayr HSQ, can’t find any pre-retrofit pics anywhere

      I think Great Escape ran very poorly for only one season before it was retrofitted. Schweitzer resort went through a bankruptcy around the time Great Escape lift was built, as both the problems with the lift, an expensive new lodge and an ownership family legal fight were going on around same time. I’d bet any pictures were few and most likely lost due to the mess then.

        It was installed in 1990 and retrofitted in 1996. It running poorly wouldn’t surprise me as we all know how Yan HSQ’s were. I’m beginning to wonder what the future holds for this lift, it runs summer and winter and has a lot of hours on it.

          Schweitzer has been in contact suppliers to refit a new driveline into the lift but I haven’t heard if they are going to do anything or if anyone wants to touch that mess, considering the age of the lift and that it serves a new mountain top restaurant the resort would be better off replacing it with a chodola or six pack.

    Schweitzer could truly have an amazing ski train from Spokane, as the Amtrak Empire Builder goes nonstop from Spokane to Sandpoint and back every single day. Unfortunately, in classic Amtrak fashion, the outbound train to Schweitzer departs at 1:25 am, arriving at 2:30 am, while the return departs at 11:50 pm, arriving at 1:40 am.
