What is that box shaped thing that sits on top of the bullwheel in the return station?

I think its something to do with the tensioning ram. I doubt its a evacuation drive as they are usually in the drive terminal but if you look closely it looks like some sort of diesel engine.

It’s the reservoir, manifold and pump for the tension system.

Why has this chair not been replaced with a detachable? I know that wind is an issue on sublette, but is it really a problem for this one too?

The lift is not that long 6-7min ride and the trail capacity is limited.

I could see them adding chairs to bring the capacity up to 2400pph but a detach would put too many skiers on the trail system at once whereas the current fixed grip can store more skiers online leaving the trails less crowded.

6-7? It’s at least a 10 minute ride, and you can always restrict capacity on the lift.

Maybe doppelmayr could install a D line here, It could be North America’s first D line HSQ

Isn’t D-line quite a bit more expensive than a regular Uni-G with regular DT-104 grips?

More importantly D-Line quads are not actually offered at all as of now. Only 6 and 8 pack chairs, 8 and 10 passenger gondolas as well as chondolas combining two of the above. At some point that might change if and when Dopplmayr plans to retire UNI-G for good, and a market for HSQ still exists at that point.

It’s more likely that if Thunder goes high speed quad, it’ll be a UNI G with Agamatic grips since that’s what Teton uses.

There probably will still be market for HSQs at smaller resorts but at some point I imagine bigger resorts following boyne in what they are doing at big sky.

When this lift is eventually replaced, I think it would be beneficial to have it spin in the opposite direction and have 90-degree unloading at the top. The current setup results in the majority of skiers making u-turns after unloading, and simply rotating the unload would be much more convenient for everyone.

Fair warning to anyone buying this lift: These are the heaviest fixed-grip chairs known to man. Prepare your lifties for clockwise scoliosis! Rumor is they are detachable chairs that JHMR got a deal on. They help in heavy winds but if you don’t slide on out to the ‘load here’ sign you are getting slammed.

These are the same chairs at Doppelmayr puts on its detaches, yes, but they’re also for its fixed-grips. Below the hanger/number plate there is no difference.

According to Peter’s spreadsheet, this year, and with Leitner-Poma doing it.

Imagine what it would be like if the new lift had Omega chairs (they dont)
