Big Chair – McCauley Mountain, NY

This lift came to McCauley for $10 by way of Gore Mountain.

When this lift was constructed at Gore, it contained a mix of new Partek parts and used Borvig parts.

One of two hold down towers along the line.
View back down the steepest section.
Upper section of the line, which parallels a Hall T-Bar in the trees to the right.
Upper terminal on the summit.
View down the middle part of the line.
Flat lower part of the line.
The first few towers.
Loading area and motor room.
A Partek tower head.
Unloading area.
Upper station view.
The final tower.
Ridgetop view near the summit.

I guess Gore really wanted to get rid of it.

Possibly old Borvig ones McCauley didn’t want to use, or from the old lift.

Where did the used parts come from?

From the Hudson Chair. That used some used Borvig parts I believe, it wasn’t entirely Partek.

I should have been more clear; sorry about that. I was referring to the used Borvig parts.

I should have worded that differently. When the Hudson Chair was originally built at Gore it was built by Partek, but they used some old Borvig parts for the construction of the Hudson Chair, if that’s what you’re referring to.

Yes that’s what I meant. I appreciate the clarification.

The Big Chair reminds me of Turbulence at Pats Peak, a 1977 Borvig rebuilt by Partek. Ditto for the other Partek built at the North Creek Ski Bowl.

But which Borvigs were they rebuilt from?
