Canyon #6 – China Peak, CA

This lift replaced a very old Riblet double that remained standing for the new lift’s first season.
Relocated equipment came from Jackson Hole, Wyoming.
View leaving the bottom terminal with the old tension return in the background.
A Doppelmayr tower head with combination assemblies.
View back down the lower lift line.
The new lift parallels the old alignment.
Upper lift line.
Arriving at the top drive terminal.
Upper station from Jackson Hole.
The length and profile are very similar to when the lift was at Jackson.
View down the line.
Another view of the line.
Galvanized tower.
Steep lower part of the line.
View up at tower 5.
The first few towers.
Side view of the bottom station.
Upper station near the old Riblet Chair 6 top.

Is it a new construction practice of sorts to keep the old lift that’s being replaced in place for the first season of the new lift? This is like 49 Degrees North keeping Bonanza around for the first year of Northern Spirit’s operations. Or Marmot Basin keeping the Knob double around for the first season of the replacement fixed grip quad’s operations.

Alta also kept Albion for one year after the new Sunnyside was constructed.

I think it’s definitely smart, there can always be problems with a new installation.
