This lift is going to be replaced with a gondola?

the gondola will run up this line with a mid-station at the top of this lift, it will then continue up to where the old gondola 1 ended

Not Leitner-Poma, this lift is Heron-Poma.

The new gondola will most likely be a Doppelmayr, seeing how Boyne has always worked with Doppelmayr and has a great relationship with them. It would be weird for one of the flagship lifts at Big Sky to be Leitner-Poma when almost everything else that is new is a Doppelmayr.

It’s probably going to be D-Line, if/when it happens.

This lift has 2 varietys of chairs. One with a fat middle back rest slat, and one with a skinny middle slat. This can also be seen on all of winter parks doubles.

When they end up building the gondola with a mid station to access the Explorer terrain, big Sky should keep the existing Explorer lift so that there is a chairlift option for beginners. Making all the beginners take of their skis after every run is really inconvenient.

Its official, this lift will be out of service by the end of 2023-24, with the new Explorer Gondola and Lone Peak Tram project announced today.

It’s too bad but it needed to go. It’s way too long for being slow and a beginner lift. Cool lift though, wish the lift itself could have lasted longer.

I agree that lifts like this are cool to ride and I think every resort should have a lift that is like a museum piece to show the roots of the resort. That being said the skiing public votes with their dollars and a place like big sky which is a destination resort is expected to upgrade and update. There are resorts if old lifts are what you want to ride, you can. They are located in all regions of the world and offer lower cost skiing. If you go to a place like big sky you are paying a premium to ride modern lifts. This lift is long overdue for replacement And for the record my favorite lift on the planet is the red chair at magic mountain, vt.
