Mogul Mouse’s Magic – Smugglers’ Notch, VT

In 1992, Smuggs relocated Magic Mountain’s Timberside lift to become a second Village lift.
The lower station building.
Drive unit and tension carriage.
Loading area at tower 1.
Like Village, Mogul Mouse’s Magic has a midstation offload opportunity for beginners about half way up.
Side view of the mid.
Upper half of the line with added lifting frames.
Tower 24 up top.
Upper station and breakover towers.

Very likely the slowest chairlift of its length to be found anywhere, by design. But necessary at Smuggs in order to train new skiers how to ride double chairs so that they can one day aspire to the fast-running M1 and Sterling lifts.

The main purpose of this lift is to absorb ski-school groups and lessons in order to take pressure off the Village Lift, which gets clogged with intermountain traffic that comes to a screeching halt every time a beginner can’t handle the loading sequence. Mogul Mouse rarely has lines and is actually not that easy to get to from the Village as it requires hiking up a small hill first. In a pinch, I’ve taken MM to get to the upper mountains (which can be done with a bit of a slow traverse) just to avoid the lines at the Village lift, but it’s a fun game to see if that actually makes sense as you watch the Morse chairs fly by you through the trees as you intermittently float through the air at a leisurely pace on MM.
