This is a nice lift- completely free to visitors (in summer). Lots of tower cages.

Why are some of the cabins different styles and ages?

Doppelmayr did an upgrade on the Telluride gondola system a few years back. I believe the full-window cabins came from that upgrade, but the others are all original. In addition to replacing some cabins, they also rebuilt the terminals and gave all of the carriers new grips.

Great news. The locals of Telluride have agreed to continue funding this gondola, meaning it will remain a free form of transportation, even when the lift is either overhauled or replaced.
