Platter – Nakiska, AB

This lift was built to service the 1988 Olympic downhill start and has never opened to the public. It is still used by ski patrol for avalanche control on the summit.
The line has only three towers and nine carriers.
View up the line with Doppelmayr platters.
There are electric and combustion drives for the lift.

Towers 2/3 and the top tension station.

This platter was at one time open to the public. Between 1988 and 1993, Nakiska ran the platter to the public, but it was closed due to the rocky conditions, and high winds.

The Platter was never open to the public. I skied Nakiska often between 1986 and 1990. The platter was only open for World Cup races. The North Axe run, the one off to the left above run 2, was open until the early 90’s, but it was accessed off the Gold Chair.

The platter lift is rarely used now. As ski patrol I have never seen anyone use this lift for I whole year.

today the platter was open for 10 min, one of the t-bars nearly broke off the line from the wind. lift maintence came up and checked it out on a ladder. Goodlift but not safe when winds are high.

The two last pictures demonstrate how windswept this area is, it is also so rocky.

Did you see the ski patrol on it? In all my time at Nakiska, I saw it running only once.
