Why does this lift have Riblet chairs?

According to newenglandskihistory.com and chairlift.org, the Riblet chairs and insert clips were added in 1990 after a fire. The lift originally had center-pole Mueller chairs.

While the fire may not have damaged all the chairs, Black Mountain may have wanted to upgrade to bail chairs anyway because they are slightly easier to load. The original chairs were also starting to get old.

It originally had Mueller center pole chairs with swing-around safety bars. The lift was rebuilt in 1990 following a fire, and these chairs were added. Either they lost a good number of old ones due to the fire, or they added these alongside the rebuild for comfort, safety, etc
