Summit – SilverStar, BC

These pictures were taken during Summit’s last few weeks before a gondola replaced it.
This was one of three Mueller doubles that once lived at Silver Star.
Lift overview. Note the gondola whale’s tail behind the counterweight.
Tower 1 is a portal-style.
Single leg top return bullwheel.
Lift line view.
Lattice towers.
There used to be a mid-station between towers 4 and 5 with two tubular towers but it was later removed.
Looking back down the line.
Breakover towers with lights for night skiing.
Unloading at tower 10.
For one season, Summit operated alongside the half-finished new gondola.

I miss this lift a lot. While the new gondola is cool, taking off your ski’s to go on a lift short like the current gondola is really annoying. Personally I think they should of made it a chondola fixed or detachable so it could accommodate everyone.

You always have the option of using the Comet Express.

This lift looks interesting. The chairs look really awful though!

It’s a classic GMD Mueller lift. Many Muellers were built in British Columbia, but few remain operational. There was once even a Mueller gondola up Mt. Hays with the classic lattice towers, but that is long abandoned.

Tower 10 in pic 11 is the shortest Mueller tower that I have ever seen.
