I used to live and work in Gatlinburg and Was there when it was built but left before it opened. A friend of mine Ron Wright (a retired surveyor for Seiver Co) told me the reason is Wares Valley has a ordnance to where steel structures can only be so high and that’s why the footers are so high. Also the smaller ones on each side of the Depression Towers are anchors for pulling on the cable to work on the Depression / Combo Sheave Trains / Changing Sheave Wheels.
