Peter, According to a direct source it appears that the two Park City lifts will be Doppelmayr. One being D-Line and one being a Uni-G with a mid-station.

Caberfae Peaks formally announced the East Peak Doppelmayr fixed triple a few days ago. Good to know the project is still on track for this summer!

Most Mechanics at Winter Park I’ve talked to have said that Pioneer will most likely be replaced in 2023. Looks like its already been takin off of 2022 new lifts. Would be nice to have a new lift there, but seeing what’s inside of the current Alpha Evolution is so cool. Incredible how far lifts have come from since then.

How many Alpha Evolutions will still be running when Pioneer is replaced? I know Hunter has the Zephyr and I think Snowmass has 1.

Snowmass has Coney Glade, and there’s the Zephyr as you mention. I think those are the only two left. At one point there were nine, by my count, in North America.

I know eight of them: the Summit Express, Pioneer Express (Winter Park), Falcon SuperChair (Breckenridge), Coney Glade, Fanny Hill (Snowmass), and Ajax Express (Aspen Mountain) in Colorado alone, plus Versant du Village (Bromont) in Quebec and Snowlite (Hunter) in New York. I don’t know what the ninth one was.

Squaw Valley’s former Siberia and Shirley Lake lifts were both Alpha Evolutions.

That makes ten: Summit Express, Pioneer Express, Falcon SuperChair, Coney Glade, Fanny Hill, Ajax Express, Siberia Express, Shirley Lake Express, Versant du Village, and Snowlite Express. I think the Falcon SuperChair was the only one of the ten to be converted from a fixed grip lift, and the others were detachables from the beginning.

Montana Snowbowl is reported to have purchased a lift from Skytrac. I think installation is for 2022, but not sure.

They confirmed for me it will go from the base area up TV Mountain.

That’s huge. The layout and circulation at Snowbowl is one of the weirdest I’ve seen anywhere, and this is the key missing link to the new expansion terrain from the last 2-3 years.

Stowe will likely get Doppelmayr so that Mountain matches with Fourrunner. I think that Middle Mansfield will be doppelmayr while spruce and gondola will be leitner Poma.

It is confirmed but they didn’t say what year they would be building it. All they said was they are building a teaching lift at the Wild Blue midstation.

What does CLD mean and MND mean?

CLD = Chair Lift Detachable
CLF = Chair Lift Fixed
MND Ropeways is the American franchise for Bartholet, a Swiss ropeway designer and manufacturer.

MND- sort of. MND is a larger French group that owns snowmaking companies as well, and contracts with BMF (Bartholet) to built detaches here in the States. BMF is their own deal in Europe. I’m not sure how the arrangement works over here but MND does not build their own lifts that I’m aware of.

MND stands for Mountain and Snow Development (snow in French is neige.) MND builds its own fixed grip chairlifts and T-Bars in France but now relies on Bartholet for detachables.

The new Mount Snow lifts are part of a 21 lift order Vail Resorts negotiated with the two major manufacturers. My understanding is Doppelmayr got all the New England projects.

I think that eventually all new lifts will have direct drives as they are in theory less expensive over time in a operation stand point
Right now they are a more expensive alternative when buying new lifts

How come Vail did not decided to invest at all in Kirkwood? So many other Vail resorts are getting upgrades when Kirkwood desperately needs their backside lift to be upgraded to a hsq.

I am surprised Vail is doing anything in the Tahoe area. They usually don’t want to do much out here.
Replacing an old Riblet at Heavenly is long over due. And the NorthStar lift won’t really have a huge increase in capacity.
Many years ago the Kirkwood plan was. A detachable from the base on existing chair 1 to the top of existing chair 2 with a restaurant over looking Caples Lake. A detachable on chair 4. Take the fixed quad from chair 4 and replace chair 3 with it.
But the only little rumor I here lately is a little talk of a fixed grip lift to Martin Point someday, but don’t hold your breath on anything happening at Kirkwood anytime soon.

Update: New news, sounds like Red Dog is being replaced this summer with a detachable on a new alignment. Closer to the original Riblet

what happened to the replacement of mountain run and little whiteface at whiteface I saw that it was getting replaced with a fixed-grip quad under 2022 new lifts, but it is not here anymore has that plan been canceled

ORDA hasn’t issues any RFPs for 2022 and at this point I think it’s too late to order.

I have never skied at Mount Snow, but I was curious why Vail went with a Sundance replacement instead of a detachable on the North Face. There’s already 3 detachables on the main face whereas the North Face has a solid amount of terrain with no detachables. Sunbrook detachable makes total sense though.

Sundance is its own base area, with a dedicated lodge (last I was there, most large groups/busses would park at Sundance). Getting out of there in the morning was always a very slow experience … riding two fixed-grip lifts. I think that upgrade will be a big improvement for the folks using that base. And also make the trails it services more lappable. Also, Mount Snow has always experienced insane lines out of the main base (even pre-Vail).
North Face is advanced/ungroomed terrain at a mountain that doesn’t really cater to experts. And those lifts are not especially long. I think some skiers back there might even prefer a fixed-grip to keep crowds down. Detachables kind of induce new demand to a trail pod (which is kind of the bummer about Sunbrook).

Is Burns Express at Deer Valley confirmed as a fixed-grip? The name indicates that it will be high-speed, and the press release also hints at a realignment by mentioning it will provide access to Little Baldy Peak.

Nice to see that Jackson Hole is upgrading Thunder. It was only a question of whether it occurred this year or next after the existing lift was listed for sale.

I wonder what the lift project for Sun Valley/Snowbasin will be this year. It will probably be at Sun Valley as Snowbasin had Middle Bowl Express built last year. Anyone have any guesses?

It is an add on which costs more and requires slightly longer terminals. However I don’t know of any installations which don’t have it.

I’m guessing the Silverlode 8 pack won’t have it because Vail typically does not get bells and whistles like that for their lifts.

I would think the same thing, but Vail did go with loading carpets on King Con at Park City and Avanti and Mountaintop at Vail.

Now that we know the alignment of deer valleys new HSQ (Top of burns lift to fork of little stick and deer hollow) and that Rough Rider at Steamboat will be a HSQ. Looks like Alterra is doing a strange strategy of installing super short HSQS.

At Saddleback for the 2022 addition of Sandy, they are putting back in place a chairlift where there had been one in the same place before (prior to five year shutdown) .

It’s going to be UNIG. A Windham rep told me D-Line but I checked with Doppelmayr and they do not plan to build any D-Line quads.

I see that Lakeview from Mt. Rose will have a new home at Dodge Ridge to replace Chair 1 and Chair 2. Since the length of Lakeview is a little over the length of Chair 1 and Chair 2 combined, I wonder if Dodge Ridge is going to split the current Lakeview into two lifts? They would need a new drive station and return station, but perhaps they have one in their boneyard to make this work?

Thanks for sharing! Going to be a high capacity lift at 3,200 pph, according to this document. Also, the tallest tower will be 83 feet! If that’s true, its going to be one of the tallest towers out there for a chairlift. Wow.

83 feet is amazingly high for a chair lift. Here in Austria chairs lifts are required to not have more than 15 meters (~50 feet) ground clearance. In the few cases there is more there are nets to reduce it.

Skied the Hidden Valley lift at Hyak/Summit East area at Summit-at-Snoqualmie yesterday and lifties and ski patrol were saying Boyne would be replacing the Riblet double with a new dopplemayer triple this off-season.

They’ve been pretty quiet about it, if that’s the case. I know the two major manufacturers are fully booked for this summer; we were supposed to build a quad but we didn’t sign a contract in time. If Hyak *is* replacing a lift they fully refurbished only a decade ago, they must have signed last year sometime? Plus things like this usually get announced as hype for the coming season. It’s unlike a major company to not make this news.

Well Boyne also owns Cyprus and their quad replacement for Sky chair didn’t get announced until recently so it could be the same case for Hyak.

Pretty sure Partek is independent. Doppelmayr doesn’t list them on the website, although I am a crotchet and might have missed it, and neither does Partek mention anyone else on their somewhat creaky website. They do list a used Kissling gearbox with a 131.1:1 ratio and anti-clockwise input shaft for 65 grand, if you are in the market.

Here is another addition or change to the new 2022 New Lifts List. Mount St Louis Moonstone in Moonstone Ontario currently has their heavy earth moving equipment out in their Moonstone side parking lot and are moving some dirt around. I spoke to the Ski Patrol Patrol Leader today and he told me that one lift (possibly a chair lift ) is being moved and another Magic Carpet is going in at MSLM. No word on which lifts are being affected. Know this for certain: when Mount St. Louis moves dirt around, they don’t usually just move a few dump truck loads. I will try to get photos from the road of the 2022 work, in the next few weeks if I can.

Here is the link the Moonstone web cam at Mount St. Louis. Put your mouse on the dot at the center of the camera and move to the right, to make the camera move. As of August 7, 2022 you see that a whole lot of dirt has been moved between the Promenade Express High Speed Six and the Easy Street Triple. The MSLM Patrol Leader I talked to today did not know for sure what kind of lift was going in.

I am at Whistler Creekside. The old gondola (I rode in 1973) is gone! But there is not enough action that the replacement could open for 2022=23 season. No chance.

I was at Palisades Tahoe today. The gondola is well on its way to completion. For Red Dog, the top terminal is in, as well as the footings for the bottom terminal and the towers. In the parking lot I see the cross arms, sheeves, and chairs. I do not see the bottom terminal nor the towers. Perhaps some/all are still to be delivered.

Blue Mountain, Ontario has replaced Century with a new Leitner-Poma 6-pack detachable named Valley Express. Utilizing existing towers. New Lift, chairs and line.

While it is being billed as a new lift, it’s not actually a completely new lift. The tower heads, haul rope, carriers and controls were replaced and the height of a few towers changed.
