The lift hasn’t been running for like a week because of gearbox problems

Apollo has been out of service since March 3, 2023 (almost a week now). They are waiting on parts.

I rode the Apollo lift yesterday and they shut it down around 3pm during high wind.
Today Apollo is out of service. The resort is recommending to boot track 20 min to Nordic Express. They have over a foot of new snow today.

Apollo is still closed. There are only two days left before the resort closes for the season, April 9th.

Agreed. Apollo is closed. It’s almost Christmas its and causing them to lose money, It broke down twice last year and its their primary lift.

I’d lean fixed quad personally. It’s not a super long liftline, and Nordic’s cheap tickets are the primary draw.

After reading the inspection report its clear that all the mechanical problems didn’t happen overnight. Sounds like the lift has been in a state of disrepair for sometime and finally an inspector called them out on it.

I’d love to see the report.

Indeed it has. Apollo has had reliability issues for years and this maintenance document is indeed no surprise. Nordic Valley is a complete joke at this point especially with their short term solution of “alpine sleds.” While I am not an expert on lift maintenance, I don’t think Nordic should even bother getting Apollo back in operation. With Powder Mountain down the road removing Paradise this coming summer, I could see that being a potential for a cost effective relocation for this summer. With the obvious factor of geographic location, it would be easy for the transport of the lift to the other side of the valley along with Paradise being one of Powder’s last lifts to open presuming that it would have low hours. Considering the presumable backlog for ordering new lifts, I think Paradise would be a great option for a replacement of Apollo. Not to mention that the profile of Apollo wouldn’t to be too crazy for a lift that is 2400 feet longer on a more varying profile. I am not sure if the drive on Paradise is rated for this, but it would be interesting to see if capacity could be bumped up to 2000 or 2400 for a relocation. Considering how capable the drive system has to be for a 5500 foot lift on a varying profile, I don’t think that is out of the question.

That being said, I give this a very low chance of happening. The most likely scenario I see here is that Nordic will do the necessary modifications to Apollo just to keep it running for a few more years before they can go forward on expanding higher up on the mountain.

On March 16, 2024 Pascal Begin, General Manager Announced that they will do a complete overhaul of the lift with help from Hall lift experts.

Powder Mountain is donating parts from their Timberline lift (Thiokol) to Nordic Valley.
