Is this the only cosmos lift in existance?

Well, it is now. There were only 2 Cosmos lifts built, one at Steamboat, and one at Mohawk Mountain, CT (Nutmeg Double). The Nutmeg double was replaced with Partek chairs but had a Cosmos top drive. The lift was replaced in 2010. Here’s a picture.

This lift was the old Christie Lift from Steamboat, and there are a few photos of it in it’s original location. The Heron-Poma chairs were added during it’s move to Coffee Mill.

As to the history of Cosmos, I found this interesting tidbit on a skilifts.org thread about Cosmos.
“We’ve been to Cowelco a few weeks ago talking to the owners about Cosmos. There is nothing left of any documents, contracts, etc. and they can hardly remember what happened back then. Some businessmen from Switzerland were visiting the company one day asking if they can do the steel work (towers, sheaves, etc.) for chair lifts. Their business was licensed under Cosmos, Long Beach, and not related to Cowelco. After Cowelco did the parts for the first two chair lifts, Cosmos was struggling to pay the bills and they stopped the cooperation.”

Is that the original Christie peak at steamboat because that lift appeared to have Yan type D grips.

No, the lifts weren’t mistakenly listed as C&S. The C&S lattice towers are different from the Cosmos towers, along with the terminals.

But that’s not a lattice tower?

Only the Nutmeg chair was a Cosmos. The rest were Carlevaro-Savio

Very cool lift that is still in good shape despite being 60 years old. I’m not sure what the original lift’s capacity is but the chair spacing is now very far apart with a capacity likely around 500 pph. Thankfully the ski area is never crowded. They seem to get just enough business to survive and hope they keep it going as it is a cool ski area.

Liftie says it’s to allow more time for beginners to load the lift while still having it at the regular speed. It’s a shame as the lines were pretty long this weekend, probably only a problem on holiday weekends though. The old chairs were still sitting in the woods at the top.

Per Google Earth, the inclined length is ~1978′ and the vertical is ~406′.

The bottom terminal seems to be some sort of American Cableworks design, as the counterweight (sheave?) wheels say American Cableworks. It looks similar to the removed American Cableworks double tension terminal that predated the current Run of the Mill lift. On the portal tower after the midstation there’s Miner-Denver sheaves. I guess Coffee Mill just found whatever parts they could get to make the relocation functional.

When I skied there in the late 2000s, the lifties were still using a crank telephone to talk to each other on Barnstormer!
