You didn’t build up a ton of speed on the original ramp, which wouldn’t have been a problem if the lift was a high speed quad like originally planned. However, as a fixed grip that unloaded right on the bullwheel there was always the possibility of getting sideswiped by the chair.
It was more of a problem for beginners, but it was still a pretty low margin for error. Even as an expert skier, it seemed like you only just got off in the nick of time. I think they had to start running the chair slower because of that.
I can vouch that the new ramp is much easier, and the lift seemed to be running a bit faster this past weekend.
That makes sense! Now that I think back on it, I have definitely been bumped a few times by the chairs when unloading, and I remember pushing off from the chair as fast as I could to avoid that.
I also remember that the lift ran very slow too, everyone seems to universally agree on that, so that’s nice that it’s running a bit faster these days with the better unload ramp. I knew that the lift definitely didn’t run at design speed originally.
