Looks like Black won’t be operating this winter…per their Facebook page.

Given the age of the infrastructure and the comments by ownership it almost seems as though they have thrown in the towel all together for this place.

Is there any chance Vail or Alterra could acquire and save the resort? I’ve never been to Black Mountain, but it does seem to have decent vert, and is relatively close to Portland.

Doubt Vail or Alterra would acquire it. Yes it has decent vertical and old style New England trails, but no snow making infrastructure, very old lifts as mentioned, off the beaten track (several minutes drive from Route 16) and a southern exposure doesn’t help. Other close areas have more vertical, modern lifts with Vail owning two close areas (Attitash and Wildcat)

Black Mountain will remain open for the upcoming 2023-2024 season as Indy Pass and Entabeni Systems Help to Seek New Owner. Great news to hear the upcoming season will still happen and I hope they are able to find a new owner(s) who can keep the mountain open for years to come.
