Some day Im gonna have to make the trek to ski here. What an interesting collection of lifts, hopefully can catch a day the T-Rex is running. Looks like you hit a great snow day there.

I think there are two alignements for the old Angel Express,

replace Sundance and T-Rex with it for more capacity

use the alignement of the proposed North Bowl t-bar with it to provide a redundency to Tamarack and capacity

    What does anybody else think?

That’s what I thought! They should replace Sundance and T-Rex and use Sundance to replace Green!

Hate to be the guy explaining the joke, but the basis is that Green is 600 feet long and is clearly not where they’re putting their first detachable when they have several 4000+ foot long chairs.

What is the exposure on that terrain. Looks to be south and southwest. It may have poor snow rentention which is a problem with Castle’s existing southern chutes

What would be the new terrain’s exposure? Looks southern and southwesterly

I think if you check the link posted by WH2OShredder, Castle says they will post an update every week, which hopefully eventually includes photo updates.

Unfortunately, there has not been an update every week, and although there are pics of the terrain and lift line, no pics of the actual lift yet.

what kind of terrain does this lift access, seems like it would have previously been black runs. It seems odd to have the only high speed lift be expert terrain.

I assume since it was cat skiing it was probably pretty technical, maybe they doing some glading?

They are cutting runs there and apparently, the press release states, “there will be runs of all abilities in the expanded terrain.”

        From their website:

We expect the Stagecoach Express zone to have primarily intermediate and advanced terrain, with one beginner run from the top of the chair, connecting back to the top of the Huckleberry Chair. The total number of additional runs is expected to be near 20, with our total lift-accessed terrain to increase by more than 25%.

that makes a lot more sense, if they werent making intermediate terrain I would have probably put the express chair as the main out of base lift and moved that other chair back to where this is.

The spreadsheet for Castle is missing some important information.
Here’s a trail map from 1968 that shows Westcastle’s lift system in it’s original glory:

    T-Bar 3 (T-Rex) and T-Bar 2 were both opened for the ski area’s inaugural season in 1965.

T-Bar 1 opened in 1966, and served the short beginner area.

T-Bar 4 was installed in 1967, and removed 2 years later in 1969. It’s installation reportedly drove the operation into enormous debt, and caused the original founder to loose the resort. The T-Bar was sold to Mt. Baldy in BC, though it recieved numerous upgrades from Poma.

It wouldn’t be until the late 1990’s when lift served skiing would come back to the upper bowl.

Here is one of the only known photos of T-Bar 4 (top right):

Yes the double chair serves all the terrain t-bar 4 served. T-Bar 4 ran up around where the Bandito run now sits. In the future, it’s on Castle’s master plan to re-build a T-Bar there, so that part of the upper mountain can be open during high winds.
