Is this just me, or is the Outpost, and this lift, in particular, the best intermediate laps you can take at Mammoth, with a slow, beautiful lift ride back up on this lift?

In my opinion, I think either this lift or chair 23 should be upgraded to a DTQ, but I would probably favor chair 23 to be a DTQ before this lift.

Disagree strongly re: Ch 23. You don’t want a detatchable lift with the winds up there, IMO. And between the gondola and Ch. 14, there is already enough capacity transporting skiers to that zone.

I do agree with the comment above though. For my money, Ch 14 does offer some of the best true intermediate laps on the mountain. I could do Road Runner to Santiago all day and not get bored.

14 should get the high speed quad upgrade.

The first picture you have for this lift might be the best picture on the entirety of this blog

A family, including a Mammoth lift maintenance employee, was traveling on highway 395 in 2000 and struck by a drunk driver. Both parents and one of the children were killed. See: https://www.psblaw.com/sherman.html

Those breakover towers are at least 20 ft tall. It was just an exceptional snow year when these photos were taken.

Now that’s one impressive cliff that this lift scales.

And the chute next to it on the right is the best on the mtn. If it was open and skiable. I don’t think patrol is a fan of rescuing Jerry from it, so it’s “unnamed” and “kinda closed”
