This is probably one of the shortest lifts in the U.S. and it is probably the slowest too. The next thing Bogus should do is replace it with a triple or quad.

Definitely not the shortest. Timberline in Oregon, Mt. Snow in Vermont, Montage Mountain in Pennsylvania, and A-Basin in Colorado all have shorter lifts than this. Replacing this lift with a triple of quad wouldn’t really affect the line speed. This lift should be capable of 500 fpm, but beginner lifts are usually run slower than the average fixed grip.

This lift is slow because it is for beginners, not because it’s not capable. This lift was created with pieces of the old Deer Point lift (Chair 1) after they installed the high-speed quad. It was plenty fast (for a fixed grip) when it was Deer Point. I’d rather them put money into a new lift that opens new terrain or expands access to the mountain than replace this.

Not sure but once I saw a ski teacher who had two people to manage but both did not know how to ride a chairlift. That is why a triple would be nice.

Mount Peter and Belleayre, both in New York, replaced double chairs in their beginner sections with quads for this reason

Does this have any 1959 parts from its previous life as 1 Deer Point?

The 1959 lift was a Poma. This is the second iteration, which is a Yan. All things apparent to the eye–I am not a mechanic here but a frequent skier–are Yan.

McU’s on Bogus Basin Road has an old Poma chair out front which might be from ’59. Not certain, but it’d be a goofy coincidence if it wasn’t.

I wouldn’t be surprised either way. After all, I once saw a Heron-Hopkins chair from Mount Sunapee in use as a swing near Magic Mountain, almost two hours’ drive away….

The line machinery off this ended up with me and then mostly went to Bachelor for Red.
