Boyne Resorts has been building them like crazy across all their resorts and has a reputation of decking them out with every bell and whistle possible including bubbles, heated seats, loading conveyors and a ton more luxury features which I assume they would do at Brighton as well. I was wondering do you think this is going to become a HS6B or just an HS6. I would like to see the first bubble lift in the canyons. Also wondering if the old lift will be reused like shedhorn at big sky. Would be cool if they used it in a future expansion.
Knowing Boyne I would assume it is likely to have bubbles along with every other bell and whistle imaginable.
Also, Boyne has committed to not buying new HSQ’s and instead upgrading their backbone lifts that are HSQ’s to 6 or 8 packs and relocating the HSQ’s elsewhere after totally refurbishing them. This wouldn’t necessarily be at Brighton, but I’d almost guarantee the Crest HSQ would find a new home at one of Boyne’s resorts.
The answer to question number two is yes. Depending on the condition of the lift, two Brighton employees told me that the lift will be refurbished and potentially installed adjacent to Great Western in the Hidden Canyon area that Brighton has within its permit area. And I was just up there skiing today and Crest is coming down FAST. Haul rope was being removed, chairs off, terminals slowly being disassembled. Doppelmayr was unloading trucks all day–lots of terminal pieces.
So as to the lift being reused, I can confirm after skiing up there the last four days, that Crest Express is being scrapped. The base terminal was knocked over last week and they are in the process of demolishing it. The carriers and grips are in the parking lot. I saw the haul rope on a truck heading down the Canyon. They’ve pulled the comm lines. The new Crest 6 is in the parking lot. I did not see the new carriers this week. It is moving right along.
I talked to mechanic on this lift and from the sounds of it this lift was having so many problems before its replacement. I wonder what made this lift take way more of a beating than say, Ramcharger at Big Sky, heck this lift seems to be in a less intense alignment and calmer. Maybe the night skiing hours have more to do with it?
Any Idea why they are replacing an HSQ that can move 2800PPH with an HS6 than can only move 2700PPH? Is that a typo or is there going to be a long gap in chair spacing?
All three of boyne’s six packs this year actually lost capacity from the lift(s) they replaced, at least theoretically (I doubt barker was moving max capacity in its last years). Camelot 6 replaced three triples with combined capacity of 4000+ and the new lift only moves 2500
Yeah that definitely sounds about right. Crest probably wasn’t moving 2,800 pph since that number assumes the lift was running at full speed. It was more likely only moving around 2,400 pph at around 950 fpm.
I remember going on this lift once or twice. Nothing to exciting. Definitely were a lot f peopler with it being the main lift. Glad it got replaced. Where is it now?

True, this is the only DS-104 ever to be installed in Utah. It’s also strange considering the amount of DS-104s that had been in Colorado.

“Scrapped, the lift suffers from too many mechanical issues and would not be worth refurbishing.”

Exactly. This lift runs 12 hour days, M-Sat, not counting pre-opening work each day. It is the main lift at Brighton.
