Not traditional in the sense of being old, but they are original to the lift from when it was Silver Fir. Riblet used that style from the mid-’80s to 1991, then moved again to a simpler style with a better lifting frame. Check out chair 8 at Baker for an example.
No, and Murray-Latta did angle their towers- though not as much as Riblet. Vertical towers are easier to build footers for and as I recall, the guys at Hyak built this in-house.
The last time I was up at Hyak, the return terminal near the bottom of Hidden Valley is all that remains of the Dinosaur. They took down all but the return terminal prior to East Peak and Hidden Valley being installed. I remember riding Dino in ’83. It was a wild ride when it stopped and you were between towers. Almost would hit the ground.
Vertical Riblet towers? Did they use the old Murray-Latta footings?

I’m sure they are new footings. I think they are slightly different in alignment, and the original M-Latta towers were really far apart.

The new towers were simply upgraded with new cross arms. That is why they are not the traditional Riblet towers.

(meaning, no, they didn’t reuse the M-L footers)

Are the M-L towers still there or did they get taken down?

I recall the same. I remember night skiing around that same time frame- the darkness made it fairly sketchy as well.

I’m quite fond of this lift actually. It’s a lovely ride to the top. I’m glad they didn’t go the detachable route for Hyak and I hope they never do.
