This mid mountain lift used to serve as a beginner pod but now hosts park skiers and riders.Lift overview.View down the lift line.Lower part of the lift line.Counterweight behind the bottom terminal.Drive terminal and lift line.No lift shack.Hall moveable drive terminal.
No- that wouldn’t necessitate additional mass on the counterweight. On a newer hydraulic tension system, if you want to increase the tension you simply increase the pressure in the system. On a counterweight you have to add more mass, and this is the easiest way to do that. My guess is that they added a few chairs or the initial math during the design phase was wrong.
Or–and you can ax yer sister-in-law about this–the form for the concrete was underbuilt. In our case the footing blew out and Todd and Tony had to get a quick lift out on the bucket while trying not to $#!@ themselves and Jen and I had to shovel like mad to clean all the waste concrete out of the now-unusable footing. Maybe here they just filled the too-small form and added blocks later.
Maybe from parleys summit in park city Ut it was removed sometime between 1985 and 1992? Maybe someone could dig in and find out more about that. I think at least one went to Titus mountain Ny and I believe it’s this lift https://liftblog.com/7-titus-mountain-ny/
Skilifts.org lists two Hall double instalations for Gorgoza; one in 1978 (http://www.skilifts.org/old/install_na1978.htm) and one in 1980 (http://www.skilifts.org/old/install_na1980.htm). A Hall double less than 1000 feet long was installed in 1968 during Gorgoza’s opening season. I have heard that Lift 1 at Titus was also from Gorgoza. Both lifts at Titus are closer in length to the 1978 and 1980 Hall doubles so this lift could easily be the 1968 Hall double at Gorgoza. Despite this 1968 Hall double not showing up on any lift instalation surveys, this interview says that the lift was bought new: https://collections.lib.utah.edu/details?id=828335&q=Cal+McPhie
Based on the updated double bail carrier with the angle iron hanger arm support (1975 or later), I would peg this as either the 1978 or 1980 installation, if it is indeed from Gorgoza/Parley’s Summit. While most new Hall double installations from that era had overhead drive terminals, I did find another at Spring Mountain, PA that used this old Model 1405 drive/tension style.
what’s with all the cinder blocks on the counterweight? Is the rope old and stretched out too much?

Anybody know where this lift came from? It appears to have been installed sometime between 1988 and 1992 as a relocation.
