Flying Squirrel – Sun Valley, ID

This detachable quad runs in an all new alignment from the previous Flying Squirrel lift, which burned down a decade before the new lift was constructed.

How do puck-shaped footrests work? I’ve only ever encountered bar-shaped.

they are very hard to use as you can only put one ski on them because 2 won’t fit. I’ve been on a few of these lifts and I definitely prefer the bars or the Leitner-Poma blocks.

I’m pretty sure you slide the puck through the space between your boot and your ski.

Not recommended. Seen more than a few people pop skis off trying to do this. Better to rest on top of the puck.

Yes you can do that but it is still very annoying to use

Agree with @SKILUCAS. I rode Juniper at Lake Louise that has those footrests and they are super annoying and uncomfortable, LPA much better.

Vertical bar goes between your legs. Then you balance the inside edges of your skis on the puck. Works great for Euro-skinny racing skis, not so well for +100 Powder skis……

Didn’t the old lift’s top station burn down? Is the old bottom station in picture #8 to the right?

Interesting that Sun Valley went with agamatic grips for this installation. Now the resort operates all three of Doppelmayr’s contemporary detachable grip types.

Of the new Warm Springs lifts, Flying Squirrel has the more varied line profile.
