Fort Apache – Sunrise Park, AZ

Yan built five lifts at Sunrise beginning in 1982 to service the new Apache Peak and Cyclone Mountains.
This nearly flat lift is a mile long with only 628 feet of vertical rise.
View down the lift line.
The towers were upgraded with Doppelmayr lifting frames and sheave assemblies.
Terminal with integrated counterweight.
Side view of the bottom terminal. With the loss of Cyclone and a surface lift, this is now the only lift out of the Cyclone base area.
Looking back down the lift line.
Riding up.
An upgraded tower.
Nearing the summit.
Middle section of the lift line.
Yan motor room up top.
Side view of the drive station.
View down from the summit. Geronimo continues this lift’s path to the top of Apache Peak.
Bottom operator house with Yan ’80s style paddle controls.
Leaving the bottom terminal.
Riding out of the base area.
I think this column was supposed to be the top terminal. For whatever reason, the lift was continued a few towers higher.

How do the paddle controls work?

I’m probably going to mix up the functions but you’ll get the general idea. The green paddle would have the start and fast; you’d lift up the paddle to start and push it down for fast. The red would be stop and slow; push down for stop and lift up for slow. The only one I’m certain of is the stop.
