The original Galaxy lift was a Hall triple built in 1979. It started around tower 7 on the current lift, shown in the 8th picture, so only the upper trails existed. When this lift was built, it was extended downward along with the terrain. This lift doesn’t operate many hours. I believe it only opened for the season the day these pictures were taken (January 16th, 2021). As of a few seasons ago, it also only ran on weekends, though I’m not sure if that’s still the case.

This lift would run full hours on weekends and run some weekdays but usually only partial hours on those days. My school’s ski club would arrive on Monday nights and we would rush to get over here since that was also about the time they wrapped up this lift for the night.

This lift was also extended upward a little bit as well from where the triple used to run, since the triple used to terminate where Asteroid begins today while the new lift terminates further up.

Actually, it’s more related to skier traffic than snow conditions. Even on active weekend days with good mid-winter snow cover everywhere, most Bristol traffic still focuses on the Comet quad with relatively long (> 5 minute) lines, but with the Galaxy quad nearly empty with no lines and with open chairs. The north side of Bristol fed by the Galaxy quad is Bristol’s best kept secret, but Bristol is gradually developing it with widening of Polaris, and snowmaking on 100% of the trails (including Lower Universe).
