Highlands Gondola – Northstar, CA

This pulse gondola was built as part of the Ritz-Carlton Lake Tahoe development.
There are many groups of two cabins and the line slows down three times during a ride.
Lower part of the line.
T4.
CWA Omega IV cabins.
Tower 1 and the bottom terminal.
Return terminal with moving platform.
Tall towers near the top.
Top unloading station.
Lower terminal at the Village at Northstar.
Upper section of the line.

    What is the “moving platform” you mentioned in this?

    If you look closely at the bottom terminal, the center part of the platform moves in synch with the bullwheel tensioning system. This is required on all fixed-grip gondolas.

      I thought it was required by the Colorado Tramway Safety Board but ok. I think the cabin holds 6 people each

    This gondola can be used to access the mountain, but it also provides access to the Ritz-Carlton, with no lift ticket required for people with no ski or snowboard gear. That makes for interesting cabin-mates. The gondola generally runs into the evening, several hours after the mountain closes.
