Simple. T-Bars carry two skiers, while J-bars only carry one. Due to manufacturers and resorts catching on to the idea that T-Bars had double the capacity of J-bars for only the cost of a bit more wood or plastic at the bottom of the carrier, J-Bars are pretty rare. Just about all left standing were either made by Hall or Borvig, or were homemade, as the one-skier model didn’t pair well with the springbox carriers used by Mueller and Doppelmayr.
Here are two examples that show the difference. Both were manufactured by Hall.

There don’t seem to be any modern j-bars out there. The “platter” has sort of replaced them.

Page 163 of the 2017 Dopplemayr – Garaventa World Book shows a photo of the Beehive J-Bar at the Osler Bluff Ski Club, which was replaced in the summer of 2016. Admittedly, one would need to be local to a surface lift to know it had been replaced, to know the manufacturer who did it , and then to know whose year book to look for it in.
