I think this is the only lift to deal with looking shorter than it actually is when you view the map, due to its location. Though this also seems true of Catskinner.
As the sole way over to Rendezvous and Seventh Heaven from the Glacier, Excelerator, and Crystal Ridge areas, it makes sense that what would’ve been Eagle 6 will be used next year to upgrade Jersey Cream.
It does not make logical sense to replace, let alone scrap a Doppelmayr Uni detachable lift. Doppelmayr was still building this model of lift in France until 2003 (https://www.remontees-mecaniques.net/bdd/reportage-tsd4-de-la-croix-doppelmayr-140.html) and parts are still readily available from the manufacturer. Vail should leave this lift alone, or relocate it to replace any of WB’s CLD-260s lifts. Not that it matters, but these terminals still look nicer than any recent LPA detachables
They probably didn’t wanna keep on replacing old parts on it, especially because its a pretty important lift for the mountain. I believe that if its down then the only way to get from Blackcomb to Whistler if your in the Crystal/Glacier area is to ski all the way down to the Excalibur/Blackomb gondola, unless you wanna take a double black down and hike a little bit.
I’m surprised this lift is getting replaced instead of Excelerator, as that’s what feeds into Glacier Creek coming off of Excalibur. It is older so that could be part of it, but if that was the case you’d think Vail would opt to replace 7th Heaven instead (glad they didn’t tho, I love that lift).
This lift is the centre of spring skiing, how will it work without it? Going to be hard to cross the mountain especially with no Horstman Tbar anymore. And it was used for summer skiing last year too.
If they replace this summer skiing will definitely be suspended since at the end of the day skiers can’t ski down glacier because there is not enough snow and there is no more horstman tbar so in a hypothetical scenario where glacier is being replaced skiers can’t take horstman to 7th heaven, download it, and then take a bus to wherever.
Aussierob – what will access for both spring and summer skiing look like this year?
I would guess everyone going from Crystal/Glacier to Catskinner/7th will have to go through BG Midstation? and maybe the old 7th heaven buses from BG Mid to Glacier for summer?
JC will be open until May long weekend for Spring skiing. For the summer operation, campers will be bussed down to Mid BG or Excalibur to down load. Or something like that.
I think these are red because of the Park City connection. Not aware a new colour scheme has bene chosen. Next lift? Who knows. I think we are going to get a break from lifts for a while. If it’s up to me, Garbanzo then VG is next up.
if you scroll up and look at AussieRob’s comment earlier about the webcams, you can see that the terminals (the top one at least) and towers are up and the haul rope and chairs are still waiting to be put on the new lift. i honestly like the red paint job it looks good but Vail definitely could have gone the extra mile to repainting them for WB
What kind of terminals?

This lift is longer than most people think. It has the whole beginning, plus the part over the ridge. It also looks small on the map

After riding Jersey Cream I thought the same. It looks pretty short when looking at it in real life.

I’m assuming this one’s just gonna be scrapped based on its age?

Yes. Some parts to keep, but mostly scrap steel.

Not yet decided if it will happen or not. There are quite a few factors at play.

Will the new Jersey Cream Express have traditional footrests or the puck ones?

It will have the traditional T style, not the triangular pucks. It will also be Red, like Fitzsimmons.

Will Red be the new color for new lifts now, or is it only cause they were ordered for Park City?
Any updates on what might be coming next, after JC? Still hoping for the VG, or have priorities changed to elsewhere?
