The Jet opened in 1985 and replaced a T-Bar.Loading area and terminal with drive and tensioning.View up the lift line.Lower station overview.Side view of the drive. The top breakover.Upper station overview.View down from the summit.Wooden unload ramp.Upper lift line seen from the Stateside Lodge.
Was there on saturday and they had to skip a chair every 5 or so chairs- rumor on the lift was that it couldn’t run full speed with a full load. Anyone know if thats true or what the reasoning for this is?
I know this lift’s replacement is not the highest priority at Jay, but it would be really nice to have a detachable chair here. The old ownership proposed a fixed-grip quad, and I understand why given the lack of intermediate terrain, but they do have the approval to cut a new intermediate trail off of the peak and it would solidify Jet’s status as a legitimate alternative to the main mountain.
Jay hasn’t cared about skiers for decades. the “Freezer” was ill placed, the Tram is for looks, no water for snow making, antiquated chairs that test the people maintaining and operating them, and on and on. Fabulous water park, hockey, golf, amenities that bring in cash that “skiers” don’t give a crap about. Love me that powder, Everglade ,Beyond Timbuktu, Beaver, The Basin, Little Jay, etc, but the drive, coupled with the increasing lack of natural snow and over crowding all contribute to a great hill neglected for the greed and grifting of those two scumbags Quiros and his former business partner, Mr, “I didnt know what was really going on” Stenger, Jay Peak’s former CEO and president. (good read here) https://vtdigger.org/2021/06/06/jay-peak-receiver-reaches-32-5m-settlement-with-quiros-ex-legal-team/ Hopefully going forward as much thought will be given to the people on the hill as there is to another over priced bottle of wine on the menu.

Hmm, I haven’t witnessed this problem, but could be. This is one of the loudest lifts around, you can hear it from the top of Bonaventure.

Looks like the jet is staying, I’ve been informed it’s getting a new haul rope along with some other upgrades from Doppelmayr.
