You could be right that it fits 6 but because in functions as a four-person gondola it should be marked as that. Also, do you know why they only allow 4 people besides the fact there are only 4 ski slots?
It could be that the gondola only serves a small pod. Im sure they got gangloff six person cabins and only 4 people are allowed in one cabin. Deer valley must of bought the cabins with the intent of only letting 4 people in 6 person cabins for more space for guests. Probably why the skis racks together can only haul 4 skis on one cabin.
It has a max weight of 680lbs per cabin listed on the placards in the cabins and the wall of the terminals… if it was 6 people they would have to be really tiny people around 110lbs each . Even 4 bigger people would blow past 680.
This is a real estate and small parking lot access lift that hardly sees any traffic. Mostly employees commuting from Heber in the morning. The cabins are the 6-place model but the seat cushions inside indicate 4 seats.
Since these pictures were taken, you now enter the building from where the “keep out” sign is in picture 2 above, through the open end of the terminal building.
I was thinking of renting a place for a month in Heber City and using this lift as my starting point for skiing .
Is there parking available? Is this a good plan or not so good?
I just want to ski and be close by without paying a fortune.

Bob! I ski deer valley quite frequently and come from the town of Provo which means I come right through Heber. I think renting a place in heber and starting your day here is a great idea. Parking shouldn’t be an issue on weekdays, but I’d get there around 8:30am or earlier on weekends. I’ve been starting my day at the gondola since I was like 7 though and it’s kind of a good little secret. You can avoid the traffic in and out of park city.
Not such a secret anymore… There are so many people parking in official sites, they have 3 wardens to direct traffic and a shuttle. But we did not know this until we got there (about 10am, weekends ok). Thank goodness it worked out. Just go NW along Deer Hollow Rd, so easy

2. Is the parking and access to gondola easier than the zoo at the base?
3. Once on the gondola – how long of a ride is it before you get off and start skiing?
4. Where does it drop off? We have a group of skiers and non skiers. Would it take them to the base so they can enjoy other parts of DV? Or would they need to ski from the drop off site??
Jay! 30 mins from Sundance seems about right. Parking at the base of the gondola is much better than at the main base. Especially on a weekday. And much quicker if you’re coming from Sundance. I’d say it’s about a 9-10 ride on the gondola. And yes, you’ve got to ski from the top of the gondola to the main base of deer valley

Quick question – looking for a way to get from Herber city to the lodges at Deer Valley for Sundance events – will this Gondola work for non-skiers to get to the Lodges at Deer Valley or is it a ski-only drop site? Thank you so much for any insight!
Deer Valley should really consider building a proper garage/transit hub at Jordanelle when it develops Snow Park. Kimball Junction and Park City have too many vehicles, and being right off of 189 makes Jordanelle more convenient for people coming from not just Heber City/Provo but also I-80 and SLC. The new Burns lift makes Jordanelle more accessible than before for skiers of all levels, and the only issue I could really see is Deer Crest not wanting more traffic.
Seth! I actually have a different perspective. But really depends on the skiing ability of those going to ski school. If they’ve ever been on skis I think they can ski from the gondola down to the ski school. Just take gnats eye instead of deer hollow and you should be good. I love starting my day at the gondola.

No, they’re Gangloff 6 passenger cabins. If you look at the picture you can see the 3 sections on the seat.

It is part of their effort to limit overcrowding on the trails and at the resort.

Can I scan my IKON pass to access the Gondola at Jordanelle? I assume if I’m there by 8:00, even on a Friday, there’s probably parking.
