Is this a larger version of the Monarch? Usually it comes with 4 windows on the side, but I spotted 5.

Yup. They have two standard sizes. Monarch (Up to 300HP) and Monarch XL (Up to 500HP).

Quite a long lift for a fixed grip. There are good runs off of here too. What is it with Powder Mountain and long fixed grips?

They would like to install more high speed lifts, after all PM is one of the largest ski resorts in the USA in terms of skiable acreage, but they don’t quite have the nice revenue needed to be able to do that. It’s a smaller events company that owns PM.

I think Paradise is more worthy of a high speed lift than this.

Yes, Paradise can warrant a high speed quad, but it won’t happen. The terrain off Paradise is mostly advanced, and Powder Mountain puts snow quality above skier flow. After all, capacity isn’t the issue and if people want to ski groomers on high speed lifts, there’s Hidden Lake.

Powder Mountain is all about untouched powder on fixed grip lifts so the powder lasts longer, along with less crowds. If you want 90% of your terrain serviced by detachables, you go to Snowbasin.
