Mayflower lift could use a replacement beacuse it is a long Yan triple built in 1984

This won’t be replaced until they get started on a large new real estate development called Mayflower. Personally I hope they don’t hurry with that, as Mayflower terrain is always empty and the runs are long. I’ve just started seeing ads for it: https://www.parkcityinvestor.com/mayflower-mountain-resort

Red Cloud is the only other fixed chair at DV with any need for replacement, and that one is much more well traveled. That is still probably a few years away.

Is mayflower one of the few yan lifts left with aluminum sheaves?

I count 19 lifts with this specific assembly type that are still running, however the sheaves themselves vary.
The style of assembly (and the black hubcap sheaves) were first used in 1982 on Killington’s Northeast Passage Triple and Mount Snow’s Challenger Triple (possibly others). They evolved over the years. Eventually the original black hubcap sheaves morphed into the sheaves seen on Yan’s later fixed grips (with type 6 grips) and Yan’s detachables. Challenger has a bunch of different sheave variants, some of which are unique (however some of them just have missing hubcaps).

Mayflower is always the last lift to open at DV. In the 2017-2018 season, which was also a very low snowfall season, Mayflower didn’t open until around January 27.

DAMMIT! I didn’t know mayflower had hubcap sheaves! I was at deer valley last season and I rode every lift there except for this one! I was like “its just another yan fixed grip, nothing new”. Man I have been looking to ride a lift with the original aluminum sheaves for a while now, this was RIGHT under my nose! Now I fear that it will be replaced before i have a chance to come back with the new expansion plan…….

I don’t think you have anything to worry about 😉

I heard this lift is finally slated for replacement with Expanded Excellence coming online, potentially as early as this summer. A new lift would go to the summit of Bald Mountain and apparently have a new name.

Probably because Alterra is trying to avoid/change names that are references to Christopher Columbus.

Also is this an April fools joke?

Not an April Fools’ Joke, but an update a year later: Keetley’s success has resulted in Sultan enduring long lines this year (and not just for Deer Valley standards). Deer Valley has acknowledged the issue and wants to relieve this crowding, and it seems like the resort is going to take a phased approach. Next year, the East Village gondola will open. If that does not effectively relieve Sultan, the realigned Crown Point detachable lift will be accelerated to 2026. If that still does not work, Mayflower will be upgraded and extended in 2027.

The latter two projects will likely happen at some point in the next 5 years regardless.

I see Sultan’s long line issue as a 1 year problem. With the other 9 new lifts coming online next year, that is going to spread people out significantly. I do hope they accelerate Lift 8 (the Crown Point replacement), as that will help tremendously with getting the people that want to go from East Village to Snow Park/Little Baldy Peak. I see Mayflower staying as it is in it’s own little pod there.

Crazy that this lift will be the new midpoint of Deer Valley. I did see cut trails a few years ago when I was here. Can’t wait to explore. Aceeses some of the most scenic trails in Deer Valley as well as Salt Lake. A extremely quiet lift. Wish it had footrests. Why the name?

Hope this lift doesn’t get replaced any time soon. Red Cloud would make more sense as a reliever for Quincy and actually seems to serve more popular terrain. Mayflower is a nice little semi independent pocket and honestly the expanded excellence seems to further that as now the lift is going to be backed up by multiple high speed lifts. Probably the last place on the whole mountain you can go to that is actually quiet
