This was pre-2015 (before the Park City/Canyons interconnect opened), going off the terminals being painted white.

This lift seems like a silly overbuild at a resort with several chairs in desperate need for upgrades, including neighboring chair Pioneer. Anyone know the background story on how McConkeys went six?

I always thought this was built with an eye toward an eventual combination with Deer Valley. This was built in 1998, the same year that Empire at DV was built right next to it, and though after 25 years the ownership structure of the industry makes that unlikely ever to happen, at the time it didn’t seem so crazy. It also has parts commonality with the other three CTEC six packs at PCMR, which has helped out several times over the years when they have raided McConkey’s for parts to keep the others running in emergencies.

IIRC, they went with a six for wind stability. It has the capacity of a quad (2400 pph) and makes sense as a detachable given its length.

If PC and Deer Valley merged, would they be bigger than Whistler?

    (including expanded excellence terrain)

Why is this lift a HSS when it serves almost only expert terrain? It seems like it would attract beginners coming off of Pioneer.

I think at the time, there was consideration of merging with DV, and this lift connects with the top of Empire.
