This lift came by way of Solitude, Utah. The bottom terminal.Uphill side of the drive station.Looking up the forested lift line. There is a mid-station unload for beginners.View from the mid-station.Steep section above the mid.Breakover towers.Return bullwheel up top. This lift received CTEC chairs in 2025.Arriving at the mid-station.View back down near the summit.
A characteristic of the Thiokol and then subsequent CTEC model up until the mid to late 80s was that these things were very smooth right between 400-450 FPM but then had a really neat “growl” to them at 500 FPM for the ones that would operate that fast. That was of course the vibrations from the motor as well as towers. But it always sounded very distinct vs YAN and the Heron/Poma FG lifts as I remember. I liked it. The old Wildcat and current Middlebowl at Snowbasin had these and I recall Moonbeam and Apex from Solitude having the sound as well.
on the “mountain conditions” page of catamount’s website, it claims that this lift had recently been “overhauled, receiving updated components and chairs”, anyone know what that’s about??
Happy that this lift found new use. I skied it at Solitude a few times when I was learning to ski back in the 80s.

What was it like, I learned to ski here in early 2000s on link but never saw moonbeam 2 (the lift here today).

You guys are funny. They’re all lift sounds to me, I’m only interested if they have bearing or gear tooth noise out of the ordinary ;)
