Basically Afton, Welch and Spirit are the only other good Minnesota ski areas

Out of the places i have been to I can definitely confirm that.

Everything except Afton is a one and done. And even then afton still just feels like a small hill with puny vertical but just really wide with a million double chairs which half of time are not even spinning. (Half of the mountain was closed when i went, Might have been cause i visited on a weekday though.) Welch on the other hand has a bit more variety with it’s trails, with nice lifts, a whole advanced back bowl section, as well as valleys and a nicer variety of trails make that mountain feel a bit more than just a hill even with the low vertical. Haven’t skied spirit but judging by visiting their bike park it seems like a good mountain.

It amazes me just how many small ski areas there are in the Midwest, despite the lack of vertical feet.

Peter. Can you please add Welch Valley? I can’t find any info or photos about the lifts anywhere. Thank you

Welch Village? On the list along with Buena Vista, Andes Tower Hills and Mt. Itasca.

When I am able to make it there. I have added 18 resorts in the past 6 days. This is not my full time job.

Thanks for letting me know about this Randy. I was able to adjust my plans and get Steeplechase pictures today. Great little mountain!

Hey Peter, can you get photos of Spirit Mountain. I went there last fall and there seemed to be about six lifts.

Does anyone know what became of the three double chairs from Mt. Frontenac, which permanently closed after the 2002-03 season? The original chair from 1971 was a Hall. The other two were added in the early 1990s and were relocations, if memory serves.

Every detachable chairlift that’s currently operating in the state of Minnesota has been built by Leitner Poma.
