Looking for more info on the heron poma double that got taken out in an avalanche and moved to Copper. Did all the Yans go in a single summer to replace the pomas?
Yes. Exo, Pali, Molly, and Norway went in in 1978. The Heron version of Lenawee hung on until 2002. The Heron Molly was built in 1975 (we just learned this last summer, as we had no information ourselves and Superior dug it out of their vault). It only operated for three years before the Professor took it out. It originally resembled galloping Goose over at Mary Jane, but the machinery frame was so mangled that Yan rebuilt it into what we have now. They actually cut the Cat hub out of the bullwheel (it was a vault-style drive) and flipped it over to make the overhead version. I don’t know why our RT has a Yan frame and not the Heron- unless it was a fixed bottom drive with the standard Heron tension return. We didn’t get that information.

This looks like a 1970s version of the Doppelmayr Eco-Drive. Looks like some inspiration here, albeit, for one of the worst drives ever produced.

It had a rolling machinery cover, so that you’d open the little doors and move it away from the machinery deck. Al Fresco motor room :)
