The second to last photo really sets a good perspective for how wide the span for the quicksilver gondola is over Thanes canyon.

Imagine a emergency stop on the span. Would be one heck of a roller coaster ride. Up down! Up down!

That span is comparable to the one on the Upper Panorama Gondola at Mammoth. If you’re in the middle, there is a good amount of sway.

If you look closely, the inside of the terminals are still blue, which was the original color of King Con and Park City Ski Area back in the day. This was about as bare-bones of a relocation as was possible, with the only new equipment being tower tubes (not even the controls from 1993 or chair number stickers). King Con had a height-adjustable bottom terminal, but the relocated version does not. The first tower was a height-adjustable carryover from King Con, but the second one is the only new tower with 4 Doppelmayr depression sheaves. Wonder why it wasn’t cheaper to do one new Doppelmayr depression tower at the bottom with 12-rockers instead of one new plus one old. This also has CTEC towerheads from King Con which had vertical towers, on top of angled new tower tubes, so the front catwalks aren’t level as they would be if they were new.

Same thing on mineral basin at snowbird. Except the lift is orignal and not relocated. Catwalks aren’t aligned with the sheave trains.

I think that it was an optional feature resorts could pick, and not many did. As evidenced by the lack of cushions on Saddleback, Ninety-Nine 90, or Super Condor, which have the same chair model as Motherlode and are also at Park City:

As well as the fact that I’ve not seen cushions on these CTEC chairs on most other detachables in the US that’ve used them, with the exception of Telluride’s Chondola and some east coast high speed quads like Sugarloaf’s SuperQuad. I want to assume that maybe it was for the sake of having slatted backrests for wind purposes:

The CTEC quad chairs with chair back cushions are the same design, unlike the Doppelmayr EJ ones which have a different physical backrest. The cushions are just pads strapped on. Deer Valley has gone back and forth a few times with backrest pads on certain lifts. Carpenter has had them in the past but doesn’t anymore. Northside has always had them, as do Quincy and Silver Strike, but not the adjacent Ruby. Probably a minor maintenance headache that doesn’t improve comfort too much.

Nowhere at PCMR has ever had backrest cushions on their CTECs, although all the Doppelmayr EJ chairs are the design with the solid padded backrests. Deer Valley’s two EJ chairs (Homestake and Mountaineer) both have the wind slat backrests (and both are in exposed areas, especially Mountaineer)

Game changing upgrade over the previous generation Triple. Quiet, lappable, advanced terrain.
