Skytrac upgraded the tension system on this lift to a hydraulic system the summer of 2018

I like the flat black paint that looks fresh.

Monarch has an old fleet but takes really good care of it. One of the cooler places to ski in the state.

Why is it one of the cooler places to ski? Because of the aesthetic, or the terrain?

          Or is it actually “cold”?

@ Snowboarder – I’d personally say from my single day of skiing, it’s cool cos vibes. I do know that’s not enough time to get anywhere within spittin distance of knowing a place, so I won’t pretend I’ve got to the core of the thing; it’s just, I don’t know, comfortable. The day I and PB were there it was 15 Freedom Degrees, snowing moderately, and windy, which is probly only cold for somebody from the Wet Side like me, but more than that it’s a place where you show up, drop your skis or board on the snow, step in, and go. The terrain is consistent, the trees fun, the grooms groomed, it’s not somewhere you write epic poems about the neck-deep triple-overhead in a 55° chute with sharks throwing knives at you or partying with Marcus Caston, but mostly you’ll just spend the whole dang day smiling. And you probly will still talk about the neck-deep triple-overhead once in a while cos it definitely happens. Worth the trip, 100%. People don’t stare you down if you show up in a blowed-out 2-door Cavalier held together with stickers and dreams, and if anyone is wearing Carhartt, it’s still at least possible they work for a living. Well, maybe that’s changed. Salida’s on the map now.
