The two detachables can only run at 800 feet per minute according to the signs at each. Also, I believe the two Carlevaro and Savio lifts are the only two in North America that still have the original chairs.

If the Killington-Pico connection were to ever happen, it would be useful to have a base to summit lift at Pico to limit the number of lifts needed to transfer over. It could go right up Pike and require little to no tree clearing. A gondola would be nice given the length, as it would be longer than anything at either resort except Skyeship.

I’d imagine the yoma HSQs here may make it a very long time. Powdr will have plenty of replacement parts from Superstar and Snowshed (which should both be on the way out in the next decade or so) and the two at Pico hardly need any sort of capacity upgrade, and the mountain probably doesn’t get enough visitors to warrant an upgrade to improve reliability alone. Considering Barker is also on the way out, I expect the Pico HSQs may be the last yomas around (outside of maybe Grand Summit).

The c&s lifts may go out based on age alone (capacity isn’t a problem). Most lifts don’t last 60+ years. You can tell Outpost is old as hell. I hope it doesn’t go the same way as old Castlerock at Sugarbush, where the footings just got too weak and they had to replace it. It’ll be a really sad day when that lift gets pulled out. I wonder if they’ll replace it with another chair or maybe a surface lift.

They can basically remove Bonanza and replace it with a long carpet. I know it is listed here at 800 ft, but it feels a bit shorter than that.

An interesting idea to replace Outpost for cheap (that is extremely unlikely to occur) would be to realign Golden Express to go to the top of Outpost from the base. To keep Golden’s existing terrain accessible with lift service, the Poma Woods glade could be cut as an actual trail (it is roughly an intermediate based on the pitch).

When a resort is operated as infrequently as Pico is these days, cost-saving measures like this are of the essence. Trimming the lift fleet without sacrificing terrain is a good way to save money.

Bonanza could be replaced with a Carpet. Little Pico and Knomes Knoll should be good for a number of more years. Outpost when the time comes, which unfortuanetly is probably coming up I bet gets replaced with a T Bar. The Yoma Quads, I bet one gets replaced with the used Ramshead Quad, as that should be replaced with a 6 or 8 pack soon.

Wasn’t Birch Glade a double chair? That’s what it was shown as on Trail maps. You have it listed as a platter,

It was a double chair. And it was removed around 1993 or 1994.

In case anyone is knowing: Does one pronounce the seemingly simple name of this historical joint “Pē-co” or “Pī-co”? I always read it with the long e, like Pico de Orizaba, but I heard a buddy of my father-in-law say it with a long i, as though it’s a restaurant that sells them circular pastries with the savory or sweet goopy fillings and he’s from somewhere in New England (CT, maybe?) and skied here a lot growing up.
